ACTS: The Deliverance of the Church

The Bible is filled with examples of divine deliverance: Noah, Joseph, Moses and the Israelites from Egypt, David from Saul, and many more. Our God is a saving God, a God of deliverance. When we come to Acts 5, we have the account of two great deliverances – the deliverance of the apostles from their incarceration in a Jerusalem jail and from certain death at the hands of the religious leaders.

Like the early church in the book of Acts, God has a plan for our trials and a purpose for our troubles as we boldly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

ACTS: The Integrity of the Church

We live in a world that boasts, “If you can’t make it, fake it.” But, the fake spirituality of professing Christians has served as an excuse for many to disregard the claims of Christ, saying, “The church is full of hypocrites.”

In the book of ACTS, we discover how the church should live in the holy fear of God and be on guard against hypocrisy (Acts 4:32-5:11). Because we are all prone to this deadly sin, we must diligently pursue godly integrity for the name of Jesus Christ and the reputation of His church.

ACTS: The Response of the Church

How does the church of Jesus Christ react to opposition for believing in Him and criticism for living for His name? In ACTS 4, Peter and John discovered quickly and firsthand what it meant to suffer as followers of Jesus Christ when they began to minister in His name (Acts 4:1-6).

Discover from ACTS 4:1-31 how changed people can change the world by responding with the truth about Jesus, replying with Christ-like humility, and relying on the power of the Holy Spirit.

ACTS: The Practice of the Church

What is the purpose of the church? Why should followers of Jesus be active members of the church?

Following Jesus as a disciple is about a personal relationship with God by faith that can only thrive in corporate fellowship with others. In the book of ACTS, we discover the record of what Jesus continued to do through His people, the church, after His resurrection and ascension. The logical progression of trusting the Son of God is connected to devoting oneself to the Word of God through the apostles’ teaching and devoting oneself to the people of God through corporate fellowship by the power of God’s Holy Spirit.

Jesus gathers together believers in Him to equip them, encourage them, and empower them to bring others into His eternal family.
