Prayer for the Harvest

by Larry Murray | PBC Sermons

In 1949, Dr. Ed Gray began serving at the Waterfront Rescue Mission to help sailors battling alcohol addiction after World War II.  After retiring, he continued serving at the mission and co-founded the Association of Christian Thrift stores that has helped establish over a 100 other stores around the US. For seven decades, Ed Gray was a tireless advocate for people to be the hands and feet of Jesus, reaching out with compassion to the ‘least of these’ in his community. He saw people as Jesus saw them, hurt as Jesus hurt for them, and did for them what Jesus would have done for them.

Jesus taught His disciples to pray about the need for workers in the Kingdom of God, like Ed Gray, because He wants other people to live eternally with Him in Heaven, too. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:38).
