How to Split the Church
Divisions in the church come from unhealthy, immature disagreements about people, positions, and preferences. Division has always been a problem among God’s people. Just look at the grumblings of Israel to and against Moses on their way to the Promised Land. Look at the positioning of Jesus’ disciples. And almost every New Testament letter to the churches deals with contention or mentions it in one way or another. Paul addresses divisions, quarrels, and arguments early on in 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 because it’s one of the most significant problems in the Corinthian church. And it continues to be a major problem in the modern church today.
