Marriage and Divorce
30 years ago this month, a 22 year old boy asked a 21 year old girl to marry him. She said, YES! And months later said, “I do.” But neither one of them had any clue what they were really getting into, what marriage would require of them, or any idea about either the great joys or deep sorrows they would face along their journey together. Marriage is keeping promises someone else made: the self you were yesterday, the person a decade before that, the child you were 30 years ago.
In Corinthians 7:8-16, the Apostle Paul clarifies God’s command for those who are married: Stay married. Stick with it! Marriage is “for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, in joy and in sorrow, ‘til death do us part.”
