A New Creation
The pressures of life, expectations of academic excellence, and the shame from his family led Ravi Zacharias to attempt suicide by swallowing poison at the age of 17. While in the hospital, however, Fred David, a Youth for Christ worker, shared a Bible with his mother and encouraged her to read to him from John 14. His mother read out loud Jesus’ words in John 14:19, “Because I live, you will live, too.”
Zacharias thought, “This is my only hope: A new way of living. Life as defined by the Author of Life.” Hearing about Christ’s death on the cross in his place, he committed his life to Him. And for next 48 years, he became an ambassador for Christ around the world as an author and a leading apologist. Through his radio program, Let My People Think, he explored issues such as the credibility of the Christian message and the Bible, the weakness of modern intellectual movements, and the uniqueness of Jesus Christ. Ravi Zacharias experienced how God makes all things new through faith in Christ.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17) This is the biography not only of Ravi Zacharias or the Apostle Paul, but of every believer in Christ! Truly, old things have passed away, and new things have come because God makes all things new.
