Prayer in Jesus’ Name
In John 14-16, Jesus looks beyond His death and resurrection to the time when He will be in Heaven seated at the right hand of the Father’s throne and preparing an eternal home for those who believe in Him. It is not surprising, then, that we should find in such a context Jesus’ promise about prayer.
John 14:12-13 “I assure you: The one who believes in Me will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
John 16:23–24 “I assure you: Anything you ask the Father in My name, He will give you. Until now you have asked for nothing in My name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.”
What an incredible promise from Jesus our Savior: When we believe in Him and pray in His Name for God to be glorified, He promises to do anything we ask.
