20/20 Vision for Equipping
As we begin a new year, our biblical purpose and desire as a local church, the Body of Christ, is to be an equipping church.
Long before David became King of Israel, even before he faced off on the battlefield against Goliath, the LORD equipped him with knowledge, a heart for God, and the skills he learned from being a shepherd. In Psalm 78, Asaph teaches a younger generation to remember what the LORD has done in the past so that they would trust in Him and obey His Word. In this psalm Asaph says, “He chose David his servant and took him from the sheep pens; He brought him from tending ewes to be shepherd over his people Jacob—over Israel, his inheritance. He shepherded them with a pure heart and guided them with his skillful hands” (Psalm 78:72).
That’s our vision as a church – to equip you, the body of Christ, with the knowledge (head), love (heart), and skills (hands) that you need to faithfully serve the Lord personally, corporately, and in the PBC community (Romans 12:4-8; 1 Peter 4:10; Ephesians 4:11-13).
