Doing Good in the Church: Biblical Discernment

We all know the story of Little Red Riding Hood. When she went to visit her grandmother, the Big Bad Wolf knew that she was coming. So he disguised himself to look like Grandma in bed. Little Red Riding Hood barely escaped with her life. The moral of that fairy tale is this: without discernment, you put yourself and others in serious danger.

In Titus 1:9-16, Paul shows how qualified, godly leaders are essential for the church because many false teachers lead others away from truth and grace. Because the enemy is so active in promoting deception and opposing God’s truth and grace, shepherds of Christ’s church must be godly men with discernment who faithfully guard the flock of God’s people.
